Sound attenuating properties of windows have become more important in recent years as more buildings are being constructed near busy roadways, airports, railways and other areas not previously developed partly due to noise issues.

The ability of an assembly of materials to reduce sound transmission in part has to do with the resonant frequencies of the materials used and also with the distance between layers of materials.
The thickness of LiteZone® insulating glass units give them a natural ability to insulate much better than conventional IGUs against sound transmission. Most windows using LiteZone® glass units will have a minimum sound transmission class (STC) of 40, or nearly as good as an 8" concrete block wall. If your building has a challenging noise issue to overcome, consider acoustic windows using LiteZone® which can be designed to achieve STC50 or higher. LiteZone® be made to achieve sound insulation as good as the best acoustic windows, but at a lower cost because sound insulation is a natural result of the basic LiteZone® design.
