Product/Extreme longevity:

Long life overview

Air filled
Pressure equalized
Film suspension
Spacer and edge seal

LiteZone® has a service free life of more than 60 years.

Throughout the development of LiteZone®, diligence was taken to ensure all its elements will have the longest possible life. All technical weaknesses in the design of conventional IGUs were considered and solutions found to overcome those weaknesses. The multi-year research and development effort succeeded in designing a superior glass unit with a life of more than 60 years.

The features ensuring LiteZone's® longevity are discussed more fully in the sections linked above. Below is a summary of those features:
  • The glass unit is only air filled, so there are no concerns with loss of performance or reduced life due to escaping argon;
  • The proprietary pressure equalization system allows the air pressure between the inside and outside of the glass unit to equalize with changing temperatures and atmospheric pressure, while keeping water vapour from entering the unit, thereby ensuring the glass unit edge seal is under minimal stress;
  • The proprietary film suspension system has been designed to keep the film taut biaxially through all operating temperatures while applying almost no stress to the film;
  • All materials used are durable and have comparable coefficients of linear thermal expansion to ensure stress due to differential thermal expansion will be extremely small;
  • The structural connection between the glass and the fiberglass spacer is twice as large as for typical IGUs making it far stronger;
  • The side walls of the fiberglass spacer are flexible to absorb stress when the glass flexes (e.g. under wind load) ;
  • There are only two edge seals to maintain regardless of the number of intermediate layers (more seals add risk of failure);
  • A stainless steel foil, impermeable to water vapour, completely wraps the perimeter of the glass unit to stop all water vapour transmission into the LiteZone® unit.
