LiteZone
® can reduce initial construction costs of large commercial buildings.

Windows using LiteZone® with sufficiently high R-values (this depends on the building design but usually at least R10) allow the optimization of a building's thermal capacitance/resistance relationship so that maximum benefit can be derived from both internal (e.g. lights, people, equipment) and external energy sources (e.g. solar radiation). This makes it feasible for buildings to eliminate conventional perimeter heating systems (e.g. hot water radiators under the windows around the perimeter of an office building) even in cold climates.

In fact, during cold weather buildings using LiteZone® many cases can have thermal losses so small that they are fully compensated with heat released by occupants, lighting, equipment and energy radiation from the outside and therefore only require a small heating system to warm outside air for ventilation and to heat the building when it is not occupied.

The cost savings available from the reduced size of the heating system, in particular from the elimination of the perimeter heating, can be very significant. Similarly the size and cost of the cooling systems can also be reduced. Often these cost savings can more than offset the cost to upgrade the window systems with the result that the overall initial construction costs are lower. This is easier to achieve in large commercial buildings which tend to have larger, more complicated and more costly heating and cooling systems.
