Passive House (PH) is a way of designing buildings to achieve exceptional energy efficiency and superior thermal comfort. Heating and cooling loads are minimized through passive measures like massing, insulation, high-quality windows, passive solar energy, shading, and elimination of thermal bridges. As the weakest part of the building envelope, windows deserve special attention in Passive House buildings and it is essential that the windows installed are of very high quality.
The LiteZone® PH product advantages

The LiteZone® L0679 PH Arctic IGU is the only PHI certified insulating glass unit manufactured in North America that achieves the requirements for the PHI arctic and cold climate zones.
The LiteZone® L0679 PH FRAMELESS™ window is the only PHI certified fixed window using a PHI cold climate certified IGU manufactured in North America that achieves the requirements for the PHI cold climate zone.

LiteZone® insulating glass units (IGUs) bring these additional advantages to a PH project:
- LiteZone® only uses air fill in a patented pressure equalized assembly and therefore has no concerns with deteriorating insulating values or with becoming decompressed due to escaping argon or krypton over the IGUs life.
- LiteZone® is engineered for a lifespan of more than 60 years making it is the most sustainable insulating glass unit available.
- LiteZone® comes with a 25 year manufacturer's warranty including against deteriorating thermal performance. Other IGU manufacturers will not warranty against the loss of thermal performance because of the problem with argon or krypton escaping over the IGUs life.
- Most LiteZone® IGUs provide excellent sound insulation with a minimum Sound Transmission Class (STC) of 40.

LiteZone® L0679 PH Arctic insulating glass unit
This PHI certificate is for an IGU that achieves the high insulating values and high solar heat gain required for buildings in both the PHI arctic climate zone and PHI cold climate zone. All of Canada and much of the USA fall into these two PHI climate zones.
- PHI certified for the arctic and cold climate zones.
- Passive House efficiency class of phA.
- Ug=0.40 W/m2K (center of glass U-value)
- G=0.42 (solar heat gain coefficient)

LiteZone® L0679 PH FRAMELESS™ fixed window
The LiteZone® L0679 PH FRAMELESS™ fixed window is accomplished by directly setting a LiteZone® L0679 PH Arctic IGU into a wall opening without a traditional frame by following prescribed installation details. The IGU is held in place using exterior and interior fiberglass glass stops which are considered to be the “window frame” for purposes of the PHI certification. By eliminating the traditional window frame, the LiteZone® L0679 PH FRAMELESS™ fixed window reduces materials used and reduces thermal transmission through the window. It achieves the required high insulating values for the complete window, including the frame and the IGU, suitable for buildings in the PHI cold climate zone.
