Featured Curtain Wall Project
Example of a curtain wall project using LiteZone® insulating glass units.
Below is an artist’s rendering of 15 Church Street, St. Catharines, Ontario, after renovations are completed and a new curtain wall is installed. The project involves the conversion of a 1960s office building into a luxury, energy efficient, condominium building. Considerable work has already been completed to prepare the building’s existing structure to receive a new curtain wall using LiteZone® L0579 insulating glass units (3.6” thick; R14.1G). About 1,000 LiteZone® glass units will be used in the new curtain wall being manufactured by Basic Industries Glazing Inc. The project is expected to be completed in the spring of 2023.
The use of LiteZone® enables the developer to use large expanses of glass for maximum views and daylight, while ensuring a high level of occupant comfort, while complying with the building energy code in Ontario, and while still being able to use a geothermal field for both heating and cooling the building. The cost savings in the heating and cooling systems made possible by LiteZone® largely offset the premium price for LiteZone®.
The photo below shows what the building looked like before the renovation. The existing exterior walls are being removed and replaced with a new curtain wall using LiteZone®.
